Common Cents (2019)
On display until Fri 21st June
Common Cents: A series of Neoliberal Arts London paintings inspired by the economic theory of creative destruction which theorizes that our current economic system constantly creates new value through the destruction of what came before.
The paintings explore the value of art, the consequences of financial crimes, the beauty of capital and the dominant ideological realism that has become the norm of modern life.
The paintings feature actual currency that has been devalued and converted from a medium of exchange into an artistic medium. Pound and euro coins have been drilled and embroidered onto screen printed canvases.
The audience is invited to question the value of the art piece and ask whether it was just a giant waste of cash. For exchange value amounts, please contact the artist.
Common Cents is presented as part of the Anti-University Degree Show at Croydon Art Store, curated by @Rosieldn
